Mappalili In Minasate’ne

According to etimology, Mappalili (Bugis)/Appalili (Makassar) originated from palili word that has meaning to keep the rice plant from something that will disturb or destroy it. Mappalili or Appalili is a hereditary ritual that held by society of South Sulawesi, the society of Pangkep regency especially. Mappalili is a part of culture that already held since some years ago.
Mappalili is a sign to begin to plant the rice. Its purpose is in order to the empty area that will be planted, disalipuri (Bugis)/dilebbu (Makassar) or kept from disturbance that usually decrease the production.
According to the section 32 chapter XV UUD 1945 about the conservation of national culture, the government of Pangkep regency gives appreciation to the conservation and the implementation of Mappalili ceremony in every year or every beginning cultivating season. At the implementation procession of Mappalili has some difference between one subdistrict with another subdistrict because according to the calculation and the discussion of custom leader (anrong guru/kalompoang) in every subdistrict. But there is something that will be the main basic of the implementation procession and the equipment that used can’t lose.
Mappalili has something that describe characteristic of the society of Pangkep completely. At the implementation of Mappalili ceremony development in every subdistrict still use some equipment that used since some years ago. The using of equipment must through the custom ritual that involves the custom leade, socialites, and some governments. Therefore, the activity of Mappalili ceremony in every subdistrict can be different according to the time and the type of its implementation ritual.
Mappalili/Appalili can be concluded as equipment or tool of unifier and the source of mutual cooperation then it can increases the production in order to increase welfare society.



MAPPALILI IN MINASATE’NE

The implementation of Mappalili in Pangkajene subdistrict includes Mappalili in Minasate’ne subdistrict. The place of the implementation of rituality is in Balla Kalompoang in Jagong. It’s started since 1824 until 1960, in the reign of Andi Muri Daeng Lulu (the last Karaeng of Pangkajene since the government with the designation of karaeng changed to the designation of subdistrict head).
After a few years it doesn’t active, so the center of the activity of Mappalili be centered in Pacce’lang and it active until now.
Mappalili in Balla Kalompoang held for five days, but with the consideration of time and cost, so it held for two days only without reducing the value and the meaning of culture.
The procession of Mappalili ceremony as follows:
The first day
- At 11.30 attangngallo, sound the traditional drum in Pacce’lang.
- At 17.30 toward Maghrib, Assa’ra Allo with the traditional drum.
- At 20.00 after Isya prayer, filled with the society performances, they are Attoeng (the girls wear baju bodo) and Pakarena Bura’ne dance. In that event, served traditional cakes and sleepless night.
The second day
After Subuh prayer, the preparation of Mappalili is done by Pinati with accompanied by the traditional drum to gather the personnel of Palili that has members 41 persons.
About at 05.30 am, the entourages of Palili go to the Kalompoang rice field (NITU) in Pacce’lang. The entourage headed by the Male Pinati. The sequence of entourage Mappalili as follows:

1. The black flag – (labolong) anrong appaka.
   
2. The red flag – to barani risibatua.
   
3. The yellow flag – bendera rilesang.
   
4. The green flag – Pabbicara risengkae flag.

- 6 spears
- Rice
- Pinati
- 1 set of plant tools
- 2 buffaloes
- Society
After from the location of Palili, the entourages of Palili eat together with songkolo na palopo serving.
There are two Pinatis, one Male Pinati and other’s Female Pinati. Pinati is selected based on the society discussion. They have different task, The Male Pinati manages the preparation and the implementation of Mappalili, and The Female Pinati manages the consumption.
CONLUSION
Mappalili in Minasate’ne is held with the Mappalili in Pangkajene. The implementation is held in Pacce’lang for two days, and it’s headed by Pinati to go to the Kalompoang rice field. After from there, the entourages of Palili eat with songkolo na palopo serving.
